Scorched Tundra Presents: YOB, Cave In & Yakuza (6/6/23 @ Thalia Hall) – On Sale!

On Tuesday 6/6/23 Scorched Tundra is proud to co-present YOB with support from CAVE IN at Thalia Hall.  Opening the evening will be Chicago-based avant-garde metal act YAKUZA. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

Epic, crushing, and heavy beyond words, YOB has achieved legendary status due to their unmatched aesthetic and incredible body of work. With riveting compositions of enormous volume and pensive, ethereal beauty, the Oregon three piece bleed out their own organic universe of ultimate doom while shining an infinite light of transcendence. The occasion marks the YOB‘s first show in Chicago since 2019 and promises sonic bliss.

The legendary CAVE IN makes a highly anticipated return with their Relapse Records debut, Heavy Pendulum, their first full studio record in over a decade. The band (Stephen Brodsky – Guitar/Vocals, Adam McGrath – Guitar/Vocals, John-Robert Conners – Drums) sees a revival following the addition of Nate Newton (Converge, Doomriders, Old Man Gloom) on bass and vocals.

Produced by Kurt Ballou at God City, Heavy Pendulum showcases everything that has long established CAVE IN as one of the best contemporary rock, hardcore, and metal bands since their monumental 1998 debut Until Your Heart Stops. From the driving tracks such as crushing opener “New Reality” to the metallic edge of “Blood Spiller”, Heavy Pendulum sees CAVE IN look back at their discography and capture their most memorable, visceral, and forward-thinking moments to create a record that is all at once familiar and in true CAVE IN fashion, ahead of the mainstream.

With a diamond back-catalogue of flawless genre breaking metal, having no stylistic constraints, YAKUZA are maestros of highly creative, extreme music, ever ahead of the game. Over 10 years after their last release, YAKUZA have returned with Sutra losing none of their expansive and wildly artistic approach to pushing the boundaries of heavy music. Sutra leans in on redefining the limits of heavy and eclectic metal, with songs like “Echoes From The Sky’s” epic sung vocals and zig zagging slabs of juggernaut riffing, all sewn together with Voivod chords and King Crimson structures, never coming apart but embracing the delightfully chaotic. New songs like “Alice” (listen below) with its surge like quality, never heard before in YAKUZA‘s music, and “Psychic Malaise” with an exciting new vocal approach, drive through a feeling of a band not only in their prime but with many new sides of their sound story to express. Sutra comes out on May 14th via Svart Records.
