Coffee Tasting for first ever Scorched Tundra Beer

On Friday we tasted coffee to be added to the first ever Scorched Tundra beer. We decided on a blend of Caturra/Catuai washed and Catuai Natural roasted by our friends at Dark Matter in Chicago. The beans come from a family operated farm in San Jeronimo Miramar Guatemala, which uses water that is naturally filtered through rocks at a nearby volcano.
The profile of the coffee itself is a slightly sweet, jammy, with dark fruit and subtle roast notes. This unique blend will serve the base beer – a sweet stout featuring Brambling and Cross hops – very well. This very drinkable black bier will be available in mid August at select bars across Chicago and both days of the festival.
